Silent Strike: from bestseller to tragedy and back to the light

Dear Reader,

Happy Saint Michael’s Day! This day is special to me for two reasons: because my grandfather’s name was Michael, and because the Archangel Michael is the patron saint of the police, which are my chosen heroes in my crime fiction novels.

Speaking of which, this month I’m celebrating two years since I’ve released Silent Strike, the third novel in my Irish Garda Series, which shot straight up the bestsellers charts on its release day. I picked out some screen shots that popped in my Facebook memories and went back to read my launch day blog post. What a rush to see my name up there with the legends of mystery and thriller!

Also, September 29 is Worldwide Heart Day, a yearly memento to raise awareness about heart disease and preventive measures to manage the cardiovascular diseases.

As I write this, I realize it’s been two years since I last published a book, and my own heart has been through more than I thought I could handle. Almost two years ago my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and six months later he passed away. In the year that followed I climbed my way back from the deepest darkness, only to have my life shattered yet again last month, when I had to comb through everything in my dad’s home – my home for twenty-five years – and practically take it apart bit by bit. It was heart wrenching, as you can imagine, but I take comfort in the gems I found, and in the fact that I found good homes for the important things.

My dad wasn’t into taking pictures, so I was incredibly happy and grateful to find a few photos I hadn’t seen before. Here’s my favorite pic of my handsome father.

The most precious thing my dad left behind is his typewriter. He was a writer too, and he was the person that steered me toward the path of writing – something I will forever be thankful for. His legacy are words – and me.

I wrote more about my journey and efforts to get back to writing last year, and I am tremendously thankful to those precious readers who took the time to message me with kind words. You are the ones that keep me upright, and although it’s a slow process, I am becoming a better writer thanks to you.

So, THANK YOU from the ❤️ and don’t forget to have yours checked at least once a year.

True Crime Trivia

Today I have a special post, introducing my friend and exceptional crime consultant for my Irish Garda Series, retired detective Simon Mclean. Simon has a brand new podcast, Crime Time Inc. where he’ll bring to the world a new perspective and brilliant guests.

Crime Time Inc. is not just another True Crime Podcast – it’s a portal to the past, where you’ll hear stories from retired police officers who were on the frontlines of investigations, facing challenges that tested their skills, intuition, and determination. These tales will transport you to the heart of the action, revealing the unvarnished truth behind the headlines. We’re delving into a diverse range of historical cases that continue to intrigue and haunt us to this day.

Crime Time Inc. made its debut last week, with an emotionally charged episode journeying back to Lanarkshire, Scotland, where two separate acts of incredible bravery went unrecognized for far too long.
